HOW GREEN IS WIND ENERGY? It may be renewable, but it is anything but green, and the citizens of rural Ontario are sounding the alarm bells. In spite of this, the Ontario Government is NOT LISTENING. As a result, citizens are being forced to take their government to court to keep them from harming people, animals and the environment. This has been and continues to be very costly for the citizens of rural Ontario. HOW GREEN IS THIS (HGIT) consists of volunteers who help communities in Ontario fundraise to pay the legal fees for their lawsuits. In 2009, the Ontario Liberal Government repealed the Energy Conservation Leadership Act & the Energy Efficiency Act. They replaced it with the Green Energy Act (GEA). • The GEA’s mandate to expand renewable energy has been called a “sham”, an “economic debacle” and a “staggering explosion of misguided investment”. • The GEA stripped all decision-making powers from municipal governments with respect to wind energy. • The GEA forced rural municipalities to install IWTs despite the government’s promise that “non-willing host” communities would be exempt. • Other countries around the world are scaling back their wind programs. However, in Ontario, IWTs are being erected at a record pace without health studies or regard for their negative effects on human and animal health, the environment, and hydro rates.

Ontario’s farmers keep complaining about the toxic sludge coming out of their wells, while the wind power outfits that have obviously caused the damage, keep lying about it.

Pile-driving and the excavations required for 400m³ of steel reinforced concrete for the hundreds of turbine bases across Chatham-Kent are the only new and intervening factor capable of turning (hitherto potable) underground water a silty black.

Last week, Portugal-based EDP Renewables filed documents with the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) as part of the Renewable Energy Approval (REA) process, to get final approval for its “Nation Rise” wind power project in North Stormont, just south of Ottawa.

Using every tool they have to act responsibly on behalf of citizens, North Stormont had engaged Ottawa engineering firm Morrison Hershfield to conduct a review of the documents presented earlier.

Cornwall MOECC office unresponsive on wind turbine noise reports

This past spring, Wind Concerns Ontario conducted an analysis of Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) response to reports of excessive noise and vibration(MOECC) and concluded the process for responding to citizen complaints is deeply flawed and largely ineffective. Global News ran a two-part investigative report on this information, which featured Ontario families who have been complaining about turbine noise for years, with no resolution.

More documents recently released under Freedom of Information (FOI) and correspondence with Ministry staff reveal problems with the Cornwall office that are further examples of a poor strategy for response. The documents and email also are a clear indication that the MOECC has completely abdicated its role as a regulator, and leaves resolution of any problems up to corporate wind power…

RESIDENTS OF ONTARIO CANNOT AFFORD ELECTRICITY AT CURRENT RATES. SOME FAMILIES HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN ELECTRICITY AND FOOD.

INDUSTRIES FACED WITH EXORBITANT CHARGES ARE RELOCATING TO U.S. JURISDICTIONS THAT OFFER MUCH LOWER RATES, TAKING JOBS WITH THEM.

AN URGENT REMEDY IS REQUIRED.
BILL 132 IS NO REMEDY; IT IS A PONZI SCHEME.

SOME CONSUMERS WILL HAVE A PORTION OF THEIR ELECTRICITY RATES DEFERRED FOR A PERIOD OF TIME;

THE DEFERRED RATES WILL BE ACCUMULATED AS AN “INVESTMENT ASSET” WHICH WILL BE SOLD TO OUTSIDE INVESTORS;

OUTSIDE INVESTORS WILL HAVE THE RIGHT TO COLLECT THE DEFERRED RATES PROTECTED FOR INFLATION, PLUS ACCRUED INTEREST, FROM RATES TO BE CHARGED TO FUTURE CONSUMERS.

BILL 132 DOES NOT ADDRESS THE ROOT CAUSE OF UNAFFORDABLE ELECTRICITY RATES.

End of public transit tax credit, effective July 1

June 30th is the last day for a policy that was actually effective in reducing carbon emissions:

The federal government’s decision to eliminate the public transit tax credit (PTTC) in its latest budget will cost the Toronto Transit Commission millions of rides, and dollars, the agency’s CEO says…

… Byford estimates that the end of the credit will result in 2.5 million fewer rides and a loss of $5 million in [the 2nd half of] 2017 [emphasis added]
